New Year Luck Money
Every year on New Year's Eve, the elders can distribute the pre-prepared lucky money to the younger generation. It is said that the lucky money can hold back the evil spirits, and the younger generation can get a safe and secure one-year-old.
There are two kinds of lucky money. One is to make a dragon shape by threading the rope, and it is placed on the foot of the bed. This record is found in the "Yanjing Years"; the other is the most common, that is, the parents put the money into the red envelope which give the child good luck.
The lucky money can be enjoyed on the spot on New Year's Eve, or when the child is asleep on New Year's Eve, the parents secretly place it under the child's pillow. The practice of elders giving younger generations a year of age is still prevalent.
Chinese folks have a saying"open firecracker". That is to say, on the occasion of the arrival of the new year, the first thing for every household is to set off firecrackers. Firecrackers are Chinese specialties, also known as "explosive", "cannon", "firecrackers".
It has a very early origin and has a history of more than 2,000 years. The real bamboo is hot, so the Tang poetry is also known as the explosion. Later generations roll paper for it which be known as "firecracker".
